On Thursday, June 30th, a new statue of Elwood Haynes was unveiled in Kokomo, Indiana. The Howard County Automotive Heritage Hall of Fame had discussed erecting a statue of Elwood Haynes for the past 15 years. In 2014, it was decided that a statue would be installed, and after more than a year of fundraising and planning, the $40,000 statue was created by sculptor DJ Bawden from Provo, Utah.
This life-sized, bronze statue of an elderly Elwood sits on a bench just outside of the Seiberling Mansion. Those who visit the Seiberling Mansion will now see the statue of Elwood Haynes and learn about his contribution to the Kokomo community. The statue honors Elwood Haynes for his impact on Kokomo and Howard County, and his status as one of Kokomo’s most important innovators.
